Richard Gordin

Richard Gordin is Of Counsel to the firm and he has over 45 years experience as a civil litigator and criminal defense attorney. During that time, he has been a partner and an associate in some of the nation’s best known law firms.  He also managed a boutique Washington D.C. firm and was co-managing partner of the D.C. office of a midwestern law firm.

He has tried dozens of jury and nonjury cases to verdict, argued appeals in federal and state courts, and authored briefs before the United States Supreme Court and numerous state and federal appellate courts. Mr. Gordin’s clients have included nationally known companies as well as smaller companies and individuals in cases that have been on front pages across the United States.

Mr. Gordin has had a successful career representing individuals and companies, including one of the largest corporations in the United States. He has defended clients in federal and state criminal and civil investigations and prosecutions, private lawsuits and administrative actions involving, among other things, commercial disputes, employment law, insurance coverage, drug pricing and sales, health care, commercial disputes, telecommunications, patent infringement, shareholder disputes, antitrust claims, deceptive practice claims, large-scale fraud claims, tax and ERISA claims, securities and discrimination. Mr. Gordin has defended investigations brought by the FTC, SEC, DOJ, FDA, CFTC and the IRS, as well as by state Attorneys General.

He has also prosecuted criminal and civil claims. As an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Mr. Gordin handled hundreds of criminal prosecutions. In private practice, he represented a large, nationwide commercial lender in suits against borrowers involved in complex, money laundering and fraudulent schemes. He successfully represented a federal agency, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, in a lawsuit to collect against guarantors on a loan. Mr. Gordin has represented plaintiffs in civil rights actions, lawsuits against insurance companies for coverage and bad faith, partnership disputes, actions for theft of intellectual property, fraud, breach of contract and tax claims.

Mr. Gordin was an instructor for the D.C. Bar course on pretrial motion practice for over 20 years. He has been invited to lecture on discovery and pretrial issues by the Office of the D.C. Corporation Counsel (now Attorney General), a Fortune Fifty corporation and a U.S. government agency. He has been an instructor for the evening program of The George Washington University School of Law. He served as Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, 1980 – 1984.
