Ways We Can Help You

Our Rockville attorneys offer a wide range of legal services for you to take advantage of. Our main focuses include:

Family Law

At our firm, we understand the importance of family law since it is a field of law that has a major effect on not just your life, but also the lives of your children. Our goal is to keep the personal emotions related to your case from getting you the outcome you deserve, which should include consistent, healthy relationships for both spouses and their children. It is our job to make sure you are treated fairly by the legal system while your goals and concerns are addressed.

From beginning to end, we will work with you to ensure that you understand your rights and obligations because we know it can be scary to be left in the dark when it comes to the law. To ease your stress and help you feel confident, we will provide the knowledge, experience, and preparation you need to face the case with confidence. We are not just here to counsel you, we can be your coach as well!

Our Family Law Attorney offers the following services:

  • Child Custody (which we explain in more detail below)
  • Child Support
  • Visitation/Parenting time
  • Domestic violence
  • Adoption
  • And more!

In our 36 years of experience, child custody is probably one of the most popular legal services we offer. To help you get an idea of what to expect and how to prepare for your child custody case, here are some of our best tips:

  • Take the time to get familiar with Maryland’s Child Custody Laws
  • Be prepared to talk about the existing emotional ties between the parents (parties) and the children
  • Be ready to diiscuss the ability and capacity of both parents to provide food, medical care, clothings, love and affection, continuation of education, and raising the child in their religion or creed, if there is any.
  • Honesty about the length of time the child has lived in a stable home and the parties ability to continue to provide stability for their child.
  • You will need to openly discuss the mental, physical, and emotional health of the parties involved.
  • If there was any domestic violence involved, that will have to be talked about in great detail. We understand it can be extremely difficult to relive moments of violence. Our office is a safe environment. and anything you say to your lawyer is confidential.
  • The courts will aim to achieve joint custody (meaning the child will reside with each parent for specific, rotating periods and the parents will be expected to still share decision-making authority for situations and problems that will affect the child’s welfare) between the parties when it comes to the minor children. However, there are circumstances where this will not be the case and we are prepared to fight for what is right for your children. Please note: Joint custody will almost always be awarded unless there is strong, clear, convincing evidence that would affect the wellbeing of the child.
  • Joint custody does not mean child support will not be paid. Both parents are to provide for the child while under their care. If one of the parties involved is found to be unable to adequately provide for their child, child support payments will most likely be ordered and set up by courts.

Divorce

Even though divorce is considered part of family law, it deserves its own section because it is not something we take lightly here at Bromberg Rosenthal. Making the decision to proceed with a divorce or separation is never easy and the process of going through the divorce doesn’t make it any easier. Going through the process of a divorce may be one of the hardest things you will go through in your lifetime. It is a daunting process that typically takes an emotional toll on those involved. Whatever challenges you face in your divorce, we are more than ready to help you face them head-on so you can begin to move forward to a better, happier future.

While going through the divorce process, we may encounter one or more of the following parts of family law on top of the divorce itself:

  • Property division
  • Business Valuation
  • Alimony/Spousal Support
  • Child Custody and Child Support
  • And more

When it comes to divorce, you may want to be the first to file to give you an “advantage” for participating in the divorce process. On the other hand, if you have been served with divorce papers, call us at (301) 251-6200 to schedule a free consultation today. There are specific actions that need to be taken in a specific amount of time. If you wait too long, it could greatly affect your ability to effectively participate in the divorce.
